n the age of data-intensive science
DESCRIPTION:Dear colleagues\,It is our pleasure to invite you to the next L
ibrary Science Talk:Gerhard Lauer (Professor of Digital Humanities at the
University of Basel)will talk about "Data\, models and libraries. Reflecti

be at the CERN reception\, Building 33\, at 16:00 to beguided to the confe
rence room.Abstract of the talk:Sciences in the 21st century are repeatedl
y described as data-intensivesciences. In recent years this also applies t
 o the humanities. However\, data-intensive sciences are only more than a p
romise if they can be modelled. Tothis end\, data must form a representati
ve and balanced corpus\, it must bepossible to formalise\, visualise and r
e-use data. Libraries have largequantities of reliable data that can be co
ndensed into corpora\, formalised andshared. Libraries thus become an esse
ntial part of a data-intensivehumanities. My talk outlines the new ways of
integrating libraries intoresearch processes in the humanities.Biography:
Gerhard Lauer is professor of Digital Humanities at the University of Base
