Sepideh Alassi

Profile

Dr. Sepideh Alassi is a postdoctoral research associate and a lecturer at the Digital Humanities Lab (DHLab) who has a background in Digital Humanities, computer science, mathematics, and the history of science. She earned her PhD in 2020 in the field of digital humanities and extensive experience in software development using various programming languages (Scala, Python, Angular, C++, R, etc.).
Previously, she was one of the developers of Knora API (recently renamed DSP-API), Switzerland's flagship RDF-based system for editing, storing, searching, and reusing humanities research data. During her PhD, she worked on the Bernoulli-Euler Online (BEOL) project, one of the earliest LOD-based digital editions presented in a virtual research environment with advanced query tools and interactive 3D visualizations.
Her current focus in the field of digital humanities is on combining Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques and linked open data (LOD) practices to create a knowledge graph from unstructured texts, allowing for linkage of the information and efficient analysis of text contents by humans and machines.
At Digital Humanities Lab, she teaches programming, text analysis, and introductory courses to linked open data and graph databases. Sepideh Alassi works towards facilitating humanities research and introducing new research methods to study humanities data by developing powerful open-source tools."
