CONF: TEI Introductory School, 10.-13. September 2019, an der Universität Graz

The Centre for Information Modelling (ZIM), the Institute for Documentology and Scholarly Editing (IDE) and the TEI Technical Council offer an introductory school on scholarly text encoding with the TEI.
The summer school will be run and held at the ZIM at the University of Graz from 10th to 13th September 2019.

The XML/TEI is a widely used standardised markup language maintained and developed by the Text Encoding Initiative (TEI) and used for the encoding of texts. Over the last three decades the standard has become fundamental for digital scholarship and is used in digital scholarly editing projects all over the world. The summer school is directed to participants with no or limited previous experience in digital scholarly editing and modelling texts using XML/TEI. In this summer school participants will learn the fundamental rules of XML/TEI, how they can use this markup language to model different kinds of texts and the fundamental of the workflow from text encoding to the publication on the WWW. This will be a hands-on summer school and participants will gain skills in writing XML/TEI and navigating it using the XPath language.

The lectures will be held by experts from the field of text encoding and digital scholarly editing from the ZIM and the IDE. Furthermore, on the last day international experts and members of the TEI Council will introduce the school participants to special topics of the TEI.

This school precedes the 2019 TEI Conference and Members Meeting in Graz and will be an excellent opportunity to learn the fundamentals of TEI before the start of the conference.
