The conference will take place from 30 January to 1 February 2020 at the Iwalewahaus/Institute of African Studies in Bayreuth.
The Africa Multiple Cluster of Excellence, established at the University of Bayreuth in January 2019, aims to reconfigure African studies based on a new conceptual framework that foregrounds multiplicity and relationality to rethink notions of diversity, plurality and connectivity in its continuous relational processes and knowledge production also in the digital sphere by establishing a semantic driven digital knowledge information system for the interdisciplinary research projects of the Cluster.
The conference “Frontiers in African Digital Research” is designed as a venue for exchange of ideas and experiences with international scholars and specialists on digital research management procedures, knowledge information systems and legal and ethical questions connected to data processing, especially in an international / European-African context.
The conference will address these various topics in four thematic panels “Big Data/Smart Data”, “Data Management: Legal and Ethical Issues”, “Semantic Web Technologies” and “Digitisation and Digital Repositories in Africa and African Studies”, starting on 30 January with a keynote by Prof. Dr. Ope-Davies from University of Lagos, Nigeria.
