Vera Chiquet is the Deputy Head in the Department of Digital Humanities at the University of Basel, a position she's held since 2021. She earned a doctorate in Art History and Sociology and published this work under the title "Fake Photos" (www.transcript-verlag.de/media/pdf/56/c8/02/ts4144_1.pdf). She studied and conducted research in Bologna, Hamburg, and Basel. She focuses her research on scholarly investigation in humanities, using computational and experimental methods to explore visual and social processes. Her research areas include critical digital studies, citizen science, artificial intelligence, and computer vision.

She is responsible for teaching, research, and promoting young researchers in the field of digital humanities, she is the founder of the swiss initiative: www.dh-ch.ch, and she represents the University of Basel at the national and international level with DARIAH (https://www.dariah.eu). Prior to her university work, she worked in auction houses and museums, including the media-specific publication of the Beyeler Museum's collection catalog. Her professional career to date includes project management and research at the University of Basel, Eikones (SNSF), the quality control of project evaluations, and social science research at the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute in Basel.
She supplements her further education in higher education pedagogy (University of Basel, 2014), leadership (HSG, St. Gallen 2023), and AI and design (fhnw, 2024) with her startup Virtual Culture (www.virtualculture.ch), supporting numerous digital private and public research projects. She is also part of the ongoing project "Participatory Knowledge Practices in Analog and Digital Image Archives" (https://about.participatory-archives.ch/).
