Profile
Marian Clemens Manz is a Doctoral Student, Lecturer, and Research Associate at the University of Basel’s Digital Humanities Lab. Following his Master’s in Conservation Sciences from the University of Applied Sciences in Bern (HKB), Marian worked as an assistant at HKB’s Institute Materiality in Art and Culture from 2020 to 2021. Since 2021, he has been a specialist in the digitization of cultural heritage objects at the Digital Humanities Lab’s Scanning Lab, overseeing comprehensive 2D and 3D digitization, data processing, and data management across various internal and external projects. Since 2024 he is Research Associate in the SNSF project "Participatory Image Archives" (PIA). In addition to his research and digitization work, Marian lectures at the University of Basel (since 2021) and at the University of Geneva (2022-2023), teaching courses in digitization, data management, digital heritage, and visual data processing.
His dissertation, "Digitize, Preserve, Publish – A 3D Data Management Method for Cultural Heritage Institutions" (working title), proposes a holistic workflow for managing 3D data within the infrastructures of cultural heritage institutions.
Marian is part of the organizing team for the DHCH Summer School in Rome, Italy, and is an active member of the IIIF Community Group, IS&T, and the DARIAH-CH GLAM Working Group.
